Principality of Rostov

Founded in the 10th century, the city of Rostov is surrounded by the most fertile farmland in northern Russia. The Principality has prospered as Kievan refugees flow northwards to escape steppe raids. Controlling an important leg of the Volga trade route has made Rostov rich and eager to extend its borders. The current Prince views both Kiev and Novgorod with contempt. The expansionist Principality seeks to expand it’s control of the Volga route and capture valuable southern farmland.
